RAFA BACKS DALGLISH FOR LIVERPOOL

Rafa Benitez may be gone from Liverpool, but he has an opinion on who his replacement should be.

The newly installed Inter Milan boss thinks former Liverpool star Kenny Dalglish should succeed him at Anfield when he spoke to the Italian media in his first press conference at Inter.

“I think they should look at Kenny Dalglish,” Benitez said. “He is the best man for the job. The owners should listen to the fans because they are unhappy.

“No one knows the club better than Dalglish, and he wants the job and in my opinion he should get it.”

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson is the bookmaker favorite to get the Liverpool job, though former England manager and current Ivory Coast manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has also throw his hat in the ring.

SUMMER FRIENDLY UPDATE: BOCA ANNOUNCE ROSTER, LEAVE STARS AT HOME

Boca juniors Head coach Roberto Pompei announced his travel roster for Boca Juniors matches against Los Angeles Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers on Wednesday, but at the same time news was released that Juan Roman Riquelme has had surgery on his knee. A move that will prevent him from playing in the early parts of next season, let alone the three match US Tour.

This will come as a blow to Galaxy fans who already were disappointed that Martin Palermo was included in the Argentina 30-man squad for the 2010 World Cup.

Galaxy fans could see an advertisement glowing over the 405 freeway, telling them to buy tickets to see Palermo and Riquelme this Saturday Night, but alas, that is not the case.

SUMMER FRIENDLIES UPDATE: SEATTLE TO HOST BOCA JUNIORS AND CELTIC

The Seattle Sounders dove into the international summer friendly pool on Wednesday announcing a pair of  friendlies either side of the World Cup.

Boca Juniors, the Argentine Super Club will play Seattle on May 26 at Qwest Field , just three days after they take on the LA Galaxy at the Home Depot Center.

Boca Juniors will have a lineup that is scheduled to include the ageless Martin Palermo and Juan Roman Riquelme, both of whom had been pursued by MLS teams in the past.

One of the most popular clubs in the world, Boca Juniors have another fan in Seattle coach Sigi Schmid “They have always been the team in South America that I sort of followed just because of their history and their tradition,” said Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid.

July 18th will see Scottish powerhouse Glasgow Celtic return to Qwest Field on July 18, making it the clubs fourth trip to Seattle.

Team owner and General Manager Adrian Hanauer, looked forward to the Sounders friendlies against what he called “two very storied franchises that will bring a lot of fun to Qwest Field in May and July.

“It’s an opportunity for us to test ourselves against some of the best teams internationally and we are looking forward to it.”

Hanauer said that although there were some more recognizable clubs out there and available for summer friendlies, the Sounders avoided teams that would have depleted star-power due to the proximity of the friendlies to the World Cup.

“That didn’t sit very well with us relative to delivering for our fans,” Hanauer said.

Sounders faithful will be delighted to find that both games are included in the Sounders season ticket package and that a third friendly was being lined up for this fall.

Fans may be less delighted to hear that Seattle will be sporting their new third kit, named ‘Electricity Yellow’ in both matches.

Individual tickets for the Boca Juniors match go on sale Monday May 3 and for Celtic on June 1.

SUMMER FRIENDLIES UPDATE – GALAXY v BOCA JUNIORS

The Los Angeles Galaxy announced that they will host perennial Argentine contender Boca Juniors at the Home Depot Center on Sunday, May 23rd, with tickets going on sale this Friday.

Similar to many of the other Super teams coming to North America in late May and Early June, many of the stars that have booked their tickets to South Africa for the World Cup will not be present, but aging Argentine heroes (and one-time Major League Soccer targets), such as Martin Palermo and Juan Roman Riquelme are expected to be present.

Boca is arguably the most famous and successful club in the Western Hemisphere, having won the Argentine League 24 times, the Copa Libertadores six times and the World Club Cup 3 times, most recently in 2007. Though the club hasn’t won a major title since 2008 and are currently languishing in 15th place in the Argentine Clausura, Boca is a well suited addition to a North American summer schedule packed with friendlies. Some of the World’s most famous teams including AC Milan, Manchester United, Celtic, Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Paris-Saint Germain and Club America are all expected to play in North America between May and August.
