SUMMER FRIENDLY UPDATE – MANCHESTER UNITED ROSTER RELEASED

Manchester United have released their travel squad for their tour of North America, which begins this week.  More notable then those on the roster may be those left off as injuries and World Cup duty have limited the star power on Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Players given a reprieve from the tour due to World Cup duty are United stalwarts Wayne Rooney, Park Ji-Sung, Anderson, Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic.

Newly signed Mexican Super-teen Javier Hernandez will join the Red Devils on July 27th, just before United battle the MLS  All-Star’s in Houston.

The star-studded injured ranks include Michael Owen, Owen Hargreaves, Gary Neville, Antonio Valencia and, of course, England captain Rio Ferdinand who was so sensationally injured just days before England’s World Cup opener against the United States.

SOCCER ON THE BOX – THE MIDWEEK

SOCCER ON THE BOX – THE MIDWEEK

We are no longer inundated with a full slate of European fixtures on TV this Midweek, but we more then make up for it with the deciding match in the fight for the final Champions League spot in England and for the first time we get a chance to see some serious midweek Major League Soccer match ups. Before we get to that, lets talk Fourth Place.

Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur at Eastlands tomorrow on ESPN2 in a match that will go a long way in sending one of the teams to the Champions League.  City is playing at home and sits in 5th place, just point being Spurs. A draw will do Spurs here, but remember that City also have a +2 better goal difference. It is literally all to play for.

These two sides have been the most entertaining all season and to see them go at each other on Wednesday should be a real treat, fasten seat belts.
