SOCCER ON THE BOX – THE MIDWEEK

We are no longer inundated with a full slate of European fixtures on TV this Midweek, but we more then make up for it with the deciding match in the fight for the final Champions League spot in England and for the first time we get a chance to see some serious midweek Major League Soccer match ups. Before we get to that, lets talk Fourth Place.

Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur at Eastlands tomorrow on ESPN2 in a match that will go a long way in sending one of the teams to the Champions League.  City is playing at home and sits in 5th place, just point being Spurs. These two sides have been the most entertaining all season and to see them go at each other on Wednesday should be a real treat, fasten seat belts.

Aside from the Pachuca-Houston matches a few years ago the MLS sides have looked woeful, outmatched and out of shape, and there are reasons for that, to be sure, but let us not, however, take anything away from the prowess of the teams from south of the Rio Grande.
