FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE – WEEK 13

Major League Soccer returned to action this weekend with Week 13 of the season amid the turmoil and triumph of the 2010 World Cup. The results are in for Week 13 in the Chicago Football League and there is no change at the top of the table as Waterford United still holds the top spot by 5 points over Kafieen FC.

Just as in Week 12, there was a tie for most points in Week 13 with both Dave Mulvihill’s Chicago Inferno and Alexa Lim’s Dancing Nancies garnering 33 points. The two teams were even tied on goals scored, but the tie-breaker has to favor the Dancing Nancies who had the edge on assists.

Thus the Manager of the Week honors go to Alexa Lim and Dancing Nancies who fielded a well rounded side around the 17 points earned from two Columbus Crew players, including Goalkeeper Will Hesmer and handball artist Guillermo Barros Schellotto. Congratulations to Alexa who has won the Manager of the Week twice in the last three weeks.

The Chicago Inferno manager is kicking himself severely for being a hairs-breadth away from putting in Philadelphia Union’s Sebastian LeToux.

The Week 13 All-MFLS Team featured three Union players and two each from the Fire and Crew, but was bolstered by four Red Bulls, including Player of the Week Juan Pablo Angel who gathered 11 points.

FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE-WEEK 12

FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE-WEEK 12

Bet you thought I forgot about Week 12, well I’ve been a bit busy. There is this other tournament around that may one day rival the Chicago Football League in popularity, but I digress. Lets take a look at the stunted Week 12 before we re-embark on the CFL season starting Friday night with week 13.

We headed into this break with Waterford United leading Kaffieen FC by 5 points atop the Chicago Football League tables.

As was always likely with only four matches being played, there was not a lot of points to be had out there, so it is no surprise that there were two candidates tied for the Manager of the Week award. Both Bill Lim’s Kaffieen FC and Bill Sullivans’s Mighty Wombats garnered 20 points in Week 12, but like the World Cup, we will decide this by Goals Scored.

Thus Bill Lim is the Week 12 Manager of the Week with 4 goals scored to only 2 for Sullivan. Lim has now won the award 3 times in 12 weeks, congrats to Mr. Lim.

FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE – WEEK 10

The Chicago Football League is 10 weeks in, one third of the season, but some teams are starting to feel the change as players have been called into their national sides for this summers World Cup in South Africa.

One team not feeling the heat is FC Tax managed by the Week 10 Manager of the Week, John Komala.

Komala’s 2nd MOTW Honor for the season, the result of a 25 point performance from FC Tax in Week 10.  Driven by Week 10 Player of the Week DeWayne De Rosario’s 9 point performance and backed up by Alvaro Saborio who claimed 7 points, FC Tax moved into 4th Place.

The top three in the CFL tables don’t shift, however, as Waterford United still sits atop the standings, 30 points clear of 2nd Place Kaffieen FC, whose lead over 3rd Place Nagoya FC is now only 5 points.

DeRo and Saborio both made the Week 10 All-MFLS Team, along with three Philadelphia Union players. A first for the first year club.

FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEK 9

Waterford United have retained pole position in the Chicago Football League Standings after Week 9 has wrapped up Waterford is 16 points clear of second place Kaffieen FC who could only manage 2 Week 9 points.

A weak week (!) had Waterford United gathering 19 points but five more than Whipple’s Wolves who were second best this week. Waterford United also receive the Manager of the Week honor for Chicago based  John “No, I didn’t play Frasier’s Dad” O’Mahoney.  (more…)

HERCULEZ GOMEZ SIGNS WITH PACHUCA

Bob Bradley isn’t the only one impressed with Herculez Gomez’s Mexican League scoring record. The Mexican Primera División scoring champion has signed with league powerhouse CF Pachuca.

Pachuca announced on their website on Friday night that they have signed the 28-year-old forward, who is training with the 30-man US National team squad ahead of next month’s World Cup. Pachuca, who already have US International José Francisco Torres on their books, (more…)

FANTASY FALLOUT: Chicago Football League-Week 8

FANTASY FALLOUT: Chicago Football League-Week 8

My apologies too you all for the delay in bringing the Fantasy Fallout to the fore. I have been out of town since Thursday and thus was unable to tap into the font that is all things football / soccer. Be assured that I will never again have days off over a weekend and that I will likely never do anything fun or interesting again.

I have yet to see a match from Week 8,  but I can safely say that it doesn’t look like i missed much. Quite an underwhelming week as 5 of the 8 matches had ONE goal or LESS in the final scoreline, with a 6th match resulting in a 1-1 scoreline. yikes.

If you were to check your Chicago Football League standings after 8 weeks, you will, no doubt notice that there is a new team at the top. Well a new-old team.

FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEK 7

A massive week in every way is behind us in MFLS. Plenty of matches, plenty of goals, bizarre blowouts all means that lots and lots of points were up for grabs. The table of the Chicago Football League is evidence to that.

Week 7 sees a new leader at the top of the standings, and for the first time this season their is a winner of the Manager of the Week for two consecutive weeks.

MLS WEEK 7 PREVIEW: COLORADO v LOS ANGELES

MLS WEEK 7 PREVIEW

COLORADO RAPIDS v LOS ANGELES GALAXY

Can anyone beat Buddle? Does anyone doubt Donovan? We will find out come Wednesday night if there is anyone that does, because this just might be the match the Galaxy drop. Make no mistake this is a game the Galaxy could lose.

A few reasons to back that claim up, one is that Colorado hasn’t lost at home yet this season. More than this the Galaxy struggle at Dick’s, they have yet to win there and have only scored once when visiting the Rapids. Worse they seem to have leaked goals in those appearances.

Let’s be honest, those were different Galaxy teams.

MLS WEEK 7 PREVIEW

HOUSTON DYNAMO v FC DALLAS

Snakebitten. Thats FC Dallas in 2010. They have yet to win and have some bad fortune and even when they lay it on thick, as they did last week against a nine-man New England Revolution side, they can’t quite seem to break through to the positive. This will either end tonight or get worse.  It can’t help the feeling in the locker room that Dallas has never won in Houston in any competition.

MLS WEEK 7 PREVIEW: DC v KC

MLS WEEK 7 PREVIEW

DC UNITED v KANSAS CITY WIZARDS

DC United is the most woeful in Major League Soccer. Win-less and pointless in MLS so far this season, the only thing that could make it worse for United is injuries. Oh, and United have a pile of injuries.

Marc Burch, Dejan Jakovic, Bryan Namoff and Chris Pontius are all out and likely taking the field with knocks are Juan Manuel Pena and Clyde Simms.

DC United couldn’t have anywhere to go but up and certainly the recent acquisitions of Stephen King and Luciano Emilio should help bolster the offense. Anyone that saw 17 year-old Andy Najar play in the Cup last week, knows he is for real and may just be the engine room of the future in the Capitol. Will any of that help United win Wednesday Night on front of their suffering fans and a National TV audience? It might.

MFLS FANTASY UPDATE – BANG FOR BUCK STARTING XI

MFLS FANTASY UPDATE – BANG FOR BUCK STARTING XI

After six weeks of Major League Soccer action we can start to glean some trends from the season and begin seeing who is the real deal on the field and who is still in the tunnel.  This can also be true in MFLS, as we can now begin to see which players had one magical night and which are the consistent performers.

Obviously we cannot fill out our rosters with all studs and foreign imports and so we have to slide in a few rookies and second years or a few cheap veterans.  These are the the players that keep the salary down while filling in the gaps between the major point producers.

Just because you need them for their salary, however, doesn’t mean that they can’t get you points.

So the question becomes; which are most affordable players who provide the most value to your team in terms of points?

Here then, without further ado… the BANG FOR BUCK STARTING XI

FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEK 6

FANTASY FALLOUT – CHICAGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEK 6

Week 6 is done and dusted and there is no change in the top two in the Chicago Football League table. League leaders Kaffieen FC extended their lead at the top of the table to 19 points, but an impressive performance by Waterford “The Blues” (an odd re-branding of perennial losers Waterford United) not only put them in striking distance of Chicago Inferno in second place, but also garnered team boss John O’Mahoney the Week 6 Manager of the Week award.

The award, the only thing Waterford has ever put in it’s dusty trophy cabinet, is a reward for playing the big hitters. Buddle, Donovan and De Rosario all graced the Waterford team and are all among the leading point getters. It is a team, however, built for the moment as O’Mahoney’s side has 4, count’em FOUR, goalkeepers on his team (Two of them on the Columbus Crew, no less). A strategy based on Phil Jackson’s four headed monster idea, hatched in the 90’s with the Chicago Bulls. Crazy like a fox, no doubt about it.

Edson Buddle’s impossible run of form continues and his 2 goal-1 assist performance garners him the Player of the Week honors again.

Buddle continues to make regular appearances in the All-MFLS Team, and the Week 6 XI is no different. Three players each for LA, Houston and Salt Lake and two from New York; who says this league is all about parity?
