SUMMER FRIENDLY UPDATE: MANCHESTER CITY ADDS PORTLAND TO SCHEDULE

Manchester City will play a fourth game in North America this July as Thursday it was announced that Portland Timbers would host the Premierships 5th place finishers on July 17.

The USL Timbers will not have the use of their facility and future Major League Soccer home, PGE Park on the date. The match, instead, will be played at the University of Portland’s Merlo Field, a stadium that holds under 5,000.

Portland is commended for being able to land such a huge team that could have drawn well over 10,000 fans in any other venue or market, but Timbers fans will be able to see a big-name team in as intimate a venue as can be imagined.

From Portland, City will travel to the East Coast to take on Tottenham Hotspur, Sporting Lisbon and New York Red Bull in the New York Football Challenge on July 22-25, before heading to Baltimore for a showdown with potential Serie A Champions Inter Milan on July 31. A possible match with Mexican powerhouse Club America is still in the works for July 28 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta

Portland Timbers season ticket holders will have a ticket to the match as part of their package and partial plan ticket holders will have discounted rates for tickets.
